on thursday, october 25th, 2012, at Via Gelato at the glen town center, chris and melanie were set up on a blind date by their mutual friends, karl (chris’ close high school friend) who is married to atsuko (melanie’s uic sorority sister), and also tram (melanie’s uic sorority sister). on their first date, chris and melanie enjoyed sharing mint chocolate chip gelato and two cappuccinos, accompanied by an acoustic guitarist in the shop. after many meals, more coffee, attending a Chicago Bears game, and getting to know each other better, they made it official as a couple on saturday, december 1st, 2012. since then, they have biked 400 miles together across chicagoland, and also on a sunrise tour down haleakala volcano in maui; they have cooked (and eaten!) many meals together; they ran the chicago hot chocolate 5K together; and they have traveled to many locations together including phoenix, the grand canyon, los angeles, hawaii - oahu and maui.

melanie has been in diagnostic research and development at abbott laboratories since 2002. she graduated from the university of illinois at chicago in 2001, with a bachelor’s degree in science. there she met many of her closest friends as a charter sister for the alpha Kappa Delta Phi sorority. melanie was born at the great lakes naval hospital in illinois, but was raised in charleston, south carolina, where she took ballet and piano lessons as a child. after moving back with her family to the northern suburbs of chicago in the late 80’s, she and her Gurnoid friends eventually went on to warren township high school - melanie was a part of the yearbook club, poms dance team, folksinger show choir, and national honor society. melanie’s interests include traveling, biking, scrapbooking, cooking, dancing, yoga, and chris.

chris is currently an i.t. analyst at an environmental consultancy, where he helps to support and maintain their computer systems. he graduated from loyola university chicago in 2001, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. after graduation, he immediately started working in i.t. for the chicago tribune and redeye newspaper. chris was born on the north side of chicago, but his family eventually moved to the western suburbs where he was raised. at lake park high school, chris was part of the football team, participated in photography/yearbook clubs, and met many of his closest friends. chris’ interests include traveling, biking, live music, photography/videography, chicago sports, racing cars, cooking, and melanie.
